The Marton line and its branches.
This is the original Davenport line, descending from John c1286-1360 who built Marton Chapel. He is the great-grandson of Vivian Davenport c1194-1250 whose stone tomb can be seen outside Prestbury Church. His brother Thomas is head of the Weltrough, Woodford and Henbury lines. There are several DNA matches for the Marton line.
Firstly, descending from John 1480-1533 (node A501) there are three DNA matches, two English, the other now in the US. One English line lived in Bowdon, Cheshire then later in Ringway, the other in the Bunbury area of Cheshire. The US line split from the Bunbury line when John Davenport 1774-1830, a soldier, died in New Jersey.
Also descending from John c1286-1360 of Marton are two further lines. First the Fulshaw line via Ralph Davenport c1435 which is the Revered John of Coventry’s line. It does not have the same YDNA signature as the Woodford nor Henbury. Second there is the Leek, Staffordshire line which has one DNA match, descending from John’s great-grandson Ralph 1412-1445.
The common ancestor of all genuine Davenport lines, including Woodford and Henbury, is John’s father Thomas 1253-1320 who married Agnes Macclesfield, he being the grandson of Vivian c1194-1250.

Participants
The following people are participants in the Davenport Surname DNA Project, have been Big-Y tested, and have been shown to descend from the Marton and Fulshaw lines so far. The Fulshaw line includes the Rev John of New Haven line from the US.
Note: Under the ancestor column, “**” is used to separate the tree which the participant supplied and that which researchers for the DNA Project believe is his connection to the Cheshire line.
