The Davenport name can be traced back to Orme De Dauneporte, who was alive about 1086 AD.  His descendants acquired the hereditary role of Magistrate Sergeants of the Forest of Macclesfield, of the county Cheshire, with local legal powers to prosecute and punish criminals. Over the centuries Orme's descendants have multiplied and established many Davenport "Manors" throughout Cheshire, including Wheltrough, Bramhall, and Capesthorne.  In the early 1600's, some of those descendents made their way to North America, primarily Boston, and thereby became the founders of at least four American Davenport lines.

Relationship Tree - How the participants are related.

The following are the known male branches of the Albemarle line. For our purposes a branch would begin with the sons of the 1st generation. If there was only one son then we would start with the sons in the 2nd generation and so on. We would like to test at lease one individual from each branch. The red highlighted entries are branches for which we have test participants. Of course we will accept any Davenport participants but especially need the non-highlighted branches.

 Y-DNA Test Results

These are the Y-DNA results to-date of the participants that currently reside in England or claim recent descent from the Country. It also includes the modal for each of the four American lines that match this group. The sequence of results (rows) is based on how closely the individual matches the others - above and below him. So the participant at the top has a closer match to the individual directly below him, than someone farther down the chart. The Modal Haplotype is what we believe the Y-DNA of the original Davenport - Orme -  looked like based on current results.  Since four American lines match this group - their modals are included for comparison. Red and blue cells show where an individual varies from the modal. Red indicates movement upward, while blue downward. Combined pink cells represent "connected" markers where the actual difference is counted as one.
