The Welthrough, Wigston, Albemarle and Astbury line
It is very recently that we have had more DNA evidence that shows a match with the Wigston and Albemarle line that is proven to descend directly from Cheshire. It is known that the Albemarle US line branches from the Wigston, Leicestershire line when Richard Davenport 1640-1717 emigrated to Albermarle. There are several DNA matches for Wigston and Albermarle that have the original Cheshire Davenport DNA but do not match any other line. Some believed that Bramall was the origin of the line but proof was lacking. The two latest matching participants came from Astbury, and prior to that Cranage and Lower Withington, that being part of the Weltrough estate. The Group Tree at the end of this page shows the path between the three of these branches. A larger tree summarizing how this group fits into the wider family tree can be seen here.

Participants
The following people are participants in the Davenport Surname DNA Project, have been Big-Y tested, and have been shown to descend from the Weltrough, Great Wigston, or in the US, the Albemarle lines
Note: Under the ancestor column, “**” is used to separate the tree which the participant supplied and that which researchers for the DNA Project believe is his connection to the Cheshire line.

Group Tree
The tree below will soon show the descentants of Weltrough which includes Great Wigston and the Albemarle Davenports.branches and how they connect based on the DNA results from participants from each branch.
MCRA = Most Recent Common Ancestor.
Use mouse to move around and zoom in.
Boxes = Possible individual who had new SNP. Ovals = Participant tested and terminal path of SNP’s to him.
