The Priors Marston line descends from the Coventry family, however the DNA of four participants that match each other, does not match the main Davenport DNA, therefore a non-paternity event happened. We have been able to pinpoint where it happened because the Reverend John who set up the New Haven colony has descendants that all have Cheshire Davenport DNA, whereas the Priors Maston line descends from the Reverend John’s uncle Thomas c1546-1599. Thomas’ grandson Thomas had two sons Thomas and Samuel. Daniel, a descendant of Samuel from Priors Marston, emigrated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania just before 1850 and Daniel’s descendant is one of the DNA participants.
Samuel‘s brother Thomas c1648 -1728 lived in Harbury, a village close to Priors Marston, and had two sons John and William who both moved to Birmingham. William’s family stayed there and set up Davenport’s Brewery, famed for its early TV adverts for ‘beer at home’. Descendant, Stanley Jennings Davenport and his wife narrowly escaped perishing on the Titanic by moving their journey forward after his wife miscarried! They settled in New York and one of the DNA participants is from this line. Another relative from New Zealand is also a DNA match.
Returning to Samuel‘s brother Thomas, his son John had a son Joseph 1712 -1773 who settled in Ashby de la Zouch, Leicestershire, where the family proliferated and another DNA participant is from this line.
