Davis Davenport was born prior to 1660, probably in Virginia. The current thinking is that he was the son of Richard Davis and Ann Davenport. Davis Davenport first appeared as a plantation and landing owner in Pamunkey Neck, Virginia in 1696 and then in the King William County Quit Rents of 1704. He has known six children - Martin, Richard, Thomas, Ann, Elias, and John. Davis died before 1735 in Virginia. His descendants settled in the Virginia, South Carolina, and Kentucky areas. Known as the Pamunkey Davenports.

Pamunkey Branches -  Relationship Tree - in PDF

The following are the known male branches of the Pamunkey line. For our purposes a branch would begin with the sons of the 1st generation. If there was only one son then we would start with the sons in the 2nd generation and so on. We would like to test at lease one individual from each branch. The red highlighted entries are branches for which we have test participants. Of course we will accept any Davenport participants but especially need the non-highlighted branches.

If there are additional branches not listed or other changes need to be made - contact info@DavenportDNA.com.

Y-DNA Test Results - Relationship Tree

These are the Y-DNA results to-date of the participants descended from Davis Davenport. The different row colors represent the separate branches of the line.  Click on the Kit # to view more information about the individual Davenport linage.  Newer results have a purple block to the left of the kit number. The Modal haplotype is what we believe the Y-DNA of Davis looked like based on current results.  Red and blue cells show where an individual varies from the modal. Red indicates movement upward, while blue downward. Combined pink cells represent "connected" markers where the actual difference is counted as one.

The descendents of Davis Davenport belong to

Haplogroup R1b1c*

The markers below, to the right of the purple line, represent a part of FTDNA's Advanced Marker selection. These markers  can be tested individually and in addition to the traditional 67 markers.  By increasing the number of markers tested we may be able to find additional DNA patterns enabling us to distinguish family branches.

Note: Marker DYS 710 is treated differently than the others. The "repeats" (value) comes in two different sizes (bases) - two and four. If the mutation involved a two base mutation, an example would be from 35 to 35.2  A four base mutation would be something like 35 to 36 or 35.2 to 36.2  But a jump that looks like four (35 to 36) could also be two two-base mutations.

Other Surnames

In most cases when any of our Davenport results have had a high resolution (37 or 67 marker) match - it was with another Davenport. However, there have been a few other surnames that came very close to the Davenports. For our purposes, very close means they match on 33 out of 37 markers or better, or 62 out of 67 or better. The surnames listed below are those that are very close to this Davenport line on the 37 or 67 marker test.

This does not necessarily infer that they had a common ancestor.  But it may be worth looking into the possibility. The first step is to determine if the ancestors lived in the same vicinity at the same time. When viewing the "prospects" - give the 67/67 a higher priority, then 66/67, and 65/67, and so on.
